Just off US #17 is Buck Hall Recreation Area in the Francis Marion National Forest, where you will find a boat ramp and campground overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway and the salt marsh. A section of the surrounding woods has been left undisturbed since Hurricane Hugo came thru in 1989, where many fallen trees are still visible.
This recreation area is also the southeastern end of the famous Palmetto Trail. If you are traveling from the coastal plain to the mountains, this is where it all begins.
