Sumter's Swan Lake and Iris Gardens combine twenty-five species of Japanese irises and swans from around the world in a natural setting. From late May into June is a great time to view the iris. The wetland area has a network of boardwalks running through it and a ³/₄-mile hiking trail. A large picnic shelter is available with a snack bar.

The Iris Market is open on Sunday from1:00p-5:00p, on Thursday and Friday from 11:00a-2:00p, and on Saturday from 12:00n-5:00p. It offers sandwiches, hot dogs, salads and other treats

How to Get There

• Take US #521 or Business US #76 into downtown Sumter, SC. Turn onto West Liberty Street (US #763) and go west 2.3 kilometers (1.4 miles). Look for the overpass.
